Walter F. "Barney" Barnes of Haddon Heights, passed away in his home on December 6, 2017, at the age of 78. Beloved husband of Judith (nee Doyle). Dear brother of the late James (Anita) Barnes. Also survived by niece and nephews: Christopher Barnes, Jennifer (Chad) Wallace and Scott (Jamie) Barnes.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday, December 30, 2017, from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will begin at 1:30 PM. Both will be held at TERRANOVA FUNERAL HOME, 402 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights. Interment is private.
Barney attended Muhlenberg College (Allentown, PA) where he majored in English. His love of the English language has always been a hallmark of his character. His college friendships have endured to this day. His volunteer activities, centered in the town of Haddon Heights, included community groups such as the JCs, town organizations such as the HH Library and foreign exchange clubs, particularly AFS. Notable is the fact that Tina Schwarz in Germany and Carol Ossandon in Italy still call him "Dad." The family wishes to thank the nurses, caregivers and social workers, also his doctor and the office staff of Heartland Hospice, South Jersey for the kindness, care and compassion they showed Barney these last many months. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in his name to one of the organizations below:
