Stanley C.
Chmielewski
Mar 15, 1929 — Dec 7, 2020
Chmielewski, Stanley Casimir (Staś) 91, longtime resident of Haddonfield. Staś passed from this life on December 7, 2020 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, secondary to complications of Covid-19 infection. He was born in Philadelphia on March 15, 1929 to Walter (Wladislaw) and Kasimiera (Czezulska) Chmielewski and a graduate of Saint Laurentius School and North Catholic High School. He married his beloved wife Mary Theresa Jaskowiak on November 4 th , 1950, who passed in 1983.
Staś served in the US Navy (both on active duty and the reserves) from 1952 to 1964. Notably, he installed the first color photo processing lab on a ship, the USS Kitty Hawk . Staś was a mainstay of industrial photography and design in the Philadelphia area and globally as well. He was an innovator in technical photography for Rohm and Haas, Penn's Veterinary School, and DuPont. During his years at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Staś entered the field of pharmaceutical exhibit design. This led to more than a decade of international travel throughout Europe and Asia which he loved; his favorite cities included Strasbourg, Rome, Caligari, Nice, Seoul, Kyoto, Sydney, Stockholm, Kuala Lumpur, and London.
He invested his time in family activities and many happy hours were spent working on and relaxing in their summer cottage in Cape May Point and celebrating holidays with a respect for their Polish Heritage.
In his later years, Staś enjoyed the company of his children and grandchildren. Living independently until the autumn of 2020, he spent his time gardening, woodworking, and writing about his life experiences. He was up to the challenge of any home improvement project, which he performed to perfection and with his signature style. Staś was a voracious reader of nonfiction, and his interest in dogs (especially Shetland sheepdogs), birds, and anything mechanical knew no bounds.
Staś will be greatly missed by his three devoted daughters, Christine M. Chmielewski, Mary Kay Hauser, and Laura M. Chmielewsk; loving grandchildren Matthew D. Smith, Julie C. Smith, Emily M. Hauser, Jacob D. Hauser, Nathaniel C. Hauser, and Maria T. Eberhardt and sons-in-law Adam C. Hauser and Herman R. Eberhardt. Private interment was on December 11 at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Blackwood, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial and a celebration of his life will take place in 2021. Donations in Staś memory would be gratefully accepted at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Catholic Relief Services, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
