Louis J.
Adelizzi
Mar 10, 1938 — Dec 25, 2021
Louis J. Adelizzi passed peacefully at his home on Christmas Day (one of the most blessed days of the year) December 25 th , 2021, at age 83 with his Daughter Maria, Caretaker Eddie, and close friend Karen by his side.
A devoted proud father, loving loyal son, a generous caring friend to many, and a faithful husband, Louis touched the lives of many with his zest for life and his love of music.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA to his parents Mr. Louis J. Adelizzi Sr. (1913-1990) and Theresa Adelizzi (1916-2006), Louis turned to music early on in his younger years developing the talent to play the accordion. He played late-night evenings and weekends with many other talented professionals while gaining experience and building diverse friendships playing the fabulous "wedding and event" band scene in Philly.
He attended The Philadelphia Musical Academy, one of the oldest music schools in America, now known as the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts. He then went on to receive a Master of Arts degree in music education from Temple University.
Louis loved children so he put his musical efforts towards helping young kids learn about music, teaching Music Appreciation for many years for the Philadelphia School System, not an easy task but the kids and other teachers loved him. Known for his piano playing, perfect teacher attendance, creative bulletin boards and clever classroom Halloween decorations, he taught kids aged Kindergarten through 6 th grade at Smith School for years. He then went on to teach at Bregy Elementary School where he finished his career and eventually retired at the young age of 55 but maintained his closeness with the school system as a Schoolman's Club Member.
Louis married his sweetheart in 1968, Mary M. Walker (1944-2008), and they spent 25 years strong together, had one child and raised her in Washington Township New Jersey and down the shore in Wildwood NJ (in the summers). As a teacher Louis had summers months off and so there were many "Dad & Daughter" days spent at Wedgewood Country Club and mini-golf outings and anywhere fun he could take his daughter, Maria, her friends and cousin.
Mr. Adelizzi enjoyed every day of his retirement years, and took advantage of his early retirement, spending most of his time attending Opera Events with all his favorite friends. He was famous for filling seats at the Opera Galas at Tomasello Winery in Hammonton NJ and was a proud supporter of The Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Center City. He loved to dine out and try new restaurants, there wasn't a food he didn't love, and he cleaned his plate every time. He always had a smile on his face, a pen in his pocket and a Lottery scratch-off card on hand to pass out to the young ladies he was fond of at the bank, the stores, and the restaurants. A true Frank Sinatra fan he followed in the footsteps of that famous Sinatra song "My Way", Lou was stubborn in all the best ways, double checked everything twice and saved everything!
Louis was a religious man and faithful follower of the Catholic church, attending mass every week, he lived by the words "God Bless" and "Keep the Faith" and always advised those around him to "take one day at a time".
He loved Italy and all things Italian. His favorite city in the world was Florence, and he was able to get back there in 2012 for a dream trip while he walked his only daughter down the aisle on her Wedding Day in a small town in Tuscany. He enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends everywhere he went. He loved the simplicity of sitting in the piazzas/courtyards and listening to street musicians.
Loved ones that cleared the path for his arrival to Heaven include his only child and daughter, Maria T. Grilly (Adelizzi) of Las Vegas, NV, his Son-in-Law, Eric J. Grilly (NV), his Cousin Sandy Santoro (NJ) who was like a sister to him, his god-daughter Denise Murray, his caretaker and friend Eddie Ghanney, and his very, very many close dear friends.
A Mass will be held in Honor of Mr. Adelizzi at 11am on Feb 5 th 2022 at St. Gabriel's Parish [2917 Dickenson St. Philadelphia PA 19146] with visitation beginning at 10:30am. A Memorial Life Celebration luncheon to follow for family and close friends. (Details to be announced).
