Lawrence D. Lyford of Voorhees, formerly of Haddonfield, passed away on October 20, 2026, at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Fletcher). Devoted father of Stephen L. Lyford and Peter F. Lyford (Rose). Loving grandfather of Laura Rose Lyford. Dear brother of Constance Lyford and the late John R. Lyford and Phyllis Logue (Thomas).
Larry, born in Columbus, OH, grew up in Haddon Heights, NJ, attending high school there. He went on to attend Penn State and was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, as well as the Blue Marching Band. He eventually graduated from Rutgers University (Camden) with a degree in Chemistry. Known by his wife as “Mr. Volunteer”, he was a founding member and president of the Haddon Heights Jaycees. His interest in service continued after marrying, and became a member of the Rotary International Club of Haddonfield, NJ.
After moving to Haddonfield, he also became a member, and then later, president of the Haddonfield Civic Association. Additionally, he was president of the Camden County chapter of the American Cancer Society, and created a fund raising event at the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, NJ with guest star Frank Sinatra.
Another group to which he generously donated his time and energy was Boy Scout Troop 65, and his involvement in Scouting included being part of the District Committee, was District Commissioner, a Council Executive Board Member, received the James E. West Fellowship Award, as well as the Silver Beaver Award, and was the proud father to an Eagle Scout (Peter).
As part of Camden Rotary, he served as President and Treasurer, was part of a group study exchange to Denmark, after having been selected for the exchange program by the Superintendent of schools and father of his Best Man! This trip took him to Denmark for 8 weeks to experience the life, culture, and businesses of their country. Being so impressed with his experience there, he later chaired a local team for another exchange, this time to New Zealand, which eventually led to him and his wife Pat taking a trip there together, which they both felt was “a trip of a lifetime!” Also part of his dedication to Rotary, he handled the paper work for years for RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) becoming known as Mr. RYLA.
He was also part of the District 7640 group study exchange committee (chair), and received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award 8 times!
Thanks to his combined involvement with Rotary International and the Boy Scouts of America, he was awarded the Cliff Dochterman Award - a Scouting award for Rotarians presented by the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians for individuals who act as a role model and who have rendered exemplary service to Scouting.
That was Larry… always leading, always “service above self”, an incredibly hardworking and dedicated father, and most importantly, his wife Pat’s HERO!
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 11 to 12 PM, followed by his Memorial Service at 12 PM at TERRANOVA FUNERAL HOME, 402 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights, NJ 08035.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Camden Rotary Foundation, PO Box 983, Ocean Gate, NJ 08740 or to Symphony in C, 576 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ 08108 www.symphonyinc.org
