Obituary

Joseph Stephen Bestic, Jr. passed away on October 11, 2022, at the age of 63. Beloved husband of the late Honey Lynn (Lisker) Bestic. He is survived by his sisters, Janet (Bestic) Totten and Cathleen (Bestic) Blumberg and his niece and nephew Ernest "Jay" Schleusener and Cathy (Schleusener) Talley, In addition, he leaves many cousins, including his closest "cuz" Deborah (Donovan) Farley and her husband Gene, along with his best friend, Jen (Farley) Harrison and his sister-in-law RoseLee (Lisker) Fleming. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph S. Bestic, Sr. and Evelyn (Hurley) Bestic and his mother-in-law Libby Lisker.

Joseph met Honey Lynn Lisker while studying respiratory therapy at Hahnemann Medical College. Together, they shared a life of joys and sorrows, victories and challenges, always secure in their love and infinite support. And they had fun together, whether staying at home with their beloved cats, or out enjoying friends and family or one of their many hobbies: photography, filmmaking, Renaissance faires, or SCUBA diving, to name a few.

Joseph had an intense curiosity about everything around him, and was equally fascinated by a spinning top and the writings of Stephen Hawking. Not satisfied by simply reading about a subject or merely observing events, he dug in to master the things that caught his imagination: animation, sculpting, glass-blowing, metalsmithing, piloting airplanes (both twin-engine and model), and sky diving are just some of the skills he enthusiastically tackled throughout his life.

But above all, Joseph cared. He was unwavering in his loyalty, compassion and love for his family, patients, friends and, most especially, his wife. He dedicated his heart, soul, career, and life to Honey Lynn. For him, the love and life they built and shared with each other was his life's greatest achievement.

While we may all grieve the loss of Joseph, we can surely find comfort in knowing Honey and Joseph are together again, two fragments of the same star.

"And you, my father, there on the sad height,

Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
