John J.
Santosusso
May 30, 1947 — Apr 26, 2021
John J. Santosusso of Haddon Heights, passed away on April 26, 2021, after a sudden illness, at the age of 73. He is the beloved husband of Theresa (nee Mecca) and the former husband of Janice Rossi; the devoted father of Jennifer Gale (Max) and Melissa Shattuck (Lee); the loving grandfather of Aidan and Miles Gale and Gavin Shattuck. He was predeceased by 1 sister, 2 brothers and 1 nephew. He is also survived by 6 nieces and nephews and by his dog, Charlie.
John was a craftsman in carpentry but really a jack of all trades. He renovated homes, designed custom additions, and built dollhouses and train stations for his children and grandson. Family was everything. John toiled tirelessly in his garden, as seen in his beautiful summer blooms. His post retirement passion was golf and he found so much joy, and occasional frustration in perfecting his game. More noteworthy than his skills, hobbies and interests, is the inspiration he gave to those he kept close. John was liberal and a feminist. He cared about women's rights and human rights and empowered his daughters to be independent. John was a mentor to his sons in law, and a spirited adventurer, even when not by choice, into his later age. John's courage and bravery spanned his lifetime. He left home at the age of 17 years to join the army and served his country overseas. He was a hands on dad to his two daughters through their upbringing and a companion to each of them in adulthood. He built his own business from the ground up and retired early from his career in contracting and carpentry to willingly become the sole full time caregiver for his wife when her cognitive health sharply declined. John loved to read a good book, cheer on his Philly home teams, play an occasional poker game with the guys, and spend time at the shore. His most recent accomplishment was to completely, with his dog in toe, renovate his daughter's shore home at the age of 73. He loved to walk his dog Charlie on the beach. John had a dry sense of humor as well as grace and grit. He made a lasting impact on many hearts and he will be missed.
