Obituary

Harry Glenys Hanson, Jr. "Glenn" of Haddon Heights, passed away on July 11, 2020, at the age of 76. Born, Atlanta, GA to Harry G. Hanson, Sr. of Crookston, MN and Dorothy R. Greenland of Binford, ND.  Spent his early years in the Atlanta, GA, Washington, DC and Cincinnati, OH areas while his father moved between assignments with his position in the federal government.   He graduated from Walter Johnson High School (Bethesda, MD) and then served in the United States Army.  Glenn attended American University, obtaining a BA in Government & Public Administration in 1971 and then earned a MS in Environmental Science at Drexel University in 1974.  He was subsequently employed by the US Environmental Protection Agency, Philadelphia, PA Region III Office, working in their Air, Radiation & Toxics division until his retirement.  Glenn resided in Haddon Heights, NJ from 1977 until the time of his passing.  He was always there to help coach his childrens' youth sports teams or to simply offer an encouraging word and advice (or a cold beer) to a family member or friend in tough times.  He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing in the shuffleboard league and playing air guitar to his favorite rock and roll songs.  He also was a lover of sports, most especially his beloved football team from Washington.  Glenn taught his children to be decent and, most importantly, kind people which is the greatest lesson a father can give.  He is survived by his wife Diane (nee Middleton) of 49 years; sons Jeff (Joan) of Haddon Heights, NJ and Eric (Cindy) of Carlsbad, CA; daughters Margaret Hanson of North Carolina and Laura (Mark Antonio) of Bend, OR; brothers John (Judy) of Lewes, DE and Karl of (Laurinburg, NC); nephews James Hanson (Philista) of Wallingford, PA and Josef Hanson (Katy) of Cordova, TN; his mother in law, four brothers in laws, 4 sisters in law, seven nephews and seven nieces all in Michigan; and five grandchildren (Kainen, Asher, Rhys, Jackson and Estelle).  Services will be private and a celebration of life will be held at such a time that large gatherings are again feasible.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Haddon Heights Youth Athletics, PO Box 1, Haddon Heights, NJ  08035
