Obituary

Evelyn "Eve" Charles (nee Reeves) of Haddon Heights, NJ passed away on December 19th, 2024 at the age of 71. Eve was born in Stuttgart, Germany, the daughter of William G. Reeves, a WWII Purple Heart Medal veteran from Portland, Maine and Georgette F. Reeves (nee Wantz), a seamstress from Nancy, France. Eve spent her early formative years growing up with two older brothers, Richard and Daniel, in London, England and Frankfurt, Germany where her father worked for the US Department of Defense. Eventually the family moved back to the United States when she was in in her early teens and settled into Willingboro, New Jersey where she graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1971.

After graduation, Eve worked in the retail and banking industries, married and moved to Barrington, NJ where she had two children, Kathryne "Kitty" and William "Bill". Eve later worked for the Camden County Board of Commissioners, then called Freeholders, where she provided constituent services, conducted research, drafted official announcements and speeches and worked on other official matters. She retired in 2014 to devote her time as a volunteer to supporting the activities of her local parish church and creative writing endeavors.

Eve was truly a free spirit, charismatic and witty. From her earliest days she loved music and had a natural talent for ballet. She was a gifted writer and speaker, which translated in her later years to a large following on twitter where she had 1.8 thousand followers, a fact she was very proud of. Eve was a fiercely passionate Camden County Democrat, and both volunteered and worked professionally for the party. Religion was also extremely important to her, she taught CCD in Barrington for many years. She frequently gave her time and effort to the church. Of all her passions and accomplishments, what stands out the most is that she truly loved helping other people. She, and the powerful positive impact she had on all those around her will be deeply missed by family, friends, and strangers alike.

Eve is survived by her two children Kitty Adams (Sebastien) and Bill Charles (Jennifer); grandchildren Zoe and Charlotte Adams; brother Daniel Reeves (Patricia) of Mays Landing, NJ; and nephews Michael Reeves of Mobile, AL, Daniel Reeves (Jacqueline) of Dayton, OH and Robert Reeves (Denise) of Basel, Switzerland. Eve's older brother Richard (Judy) of Mobile, AL predeceased her in 2020.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Mass on Thursday, January 9th, 2025, at 10am for visiting, and at 11am for Mass, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 4th Avenue and Kings Hwy, Haddon Heights.
